Many people compare Claude and ChatGPT as if one must be superior, but that framing misses the point. Their design philosophies differ fundamentally: ChatGPT excels at broad, flexible task coverage; Claude was built from the ground up with safety and interpretability at its core. This makes Claude stand out in scenarios requiring careful, nuanced judgment. With a context window of up to 200K tokens, you can paste an entire legal contract, a full technical manual, or a research report tens of thousands of words long—Claude processes it whole, not in fragmented chunks.

Claude pinpoints specific clause numbers, explains potential legal risks, and even suggests revision directions. This stems from its holistic understanding of long documents rather than scanning paragraph by paragraph. Compared to ChatGPT, which can lose track of earlier content in very long documents, Claude maintains noticeably stronger consistency throughout.

This makes it especially well-suited for ESG report writing, policy impact assessments, and product ethics reviews. Ask it “Is this pricing strategy fair to low-income users? Analyze from three perspectives” and you’ll get a layered, substantive response—not evasion or vague hedging. This reflects Anthropic’s intentional “Constitutional AI” training philosophy embedded in Claude’s design.
